What is Rsp in Education?
In order to be an RSP, a teacher must have a Resource Specialist Authorization in addition to a teaching credential. The requirements for this authorization are:
-A master’s degree or higher with at least 30 units of courses in specific areas such as reading, language development, and special education
-A California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) score of 155 or higher
-A test of basic skills and a professional subject matter examination in reading
-An approved program in reading, language development, and methods of teaching reading to pupils with reading difficulties
-A minimum of two years’ successful full-time teaching experience, including one year working with pupils with reading difficulties
The Resource Specialist Authorization is valid for five years and may be renewed. To renew the authorization, the resource specialist must submit a renewal form and fee to the Commission no later than 30 days prior to the expiration date. The form and fee can be submitted by mail or fax. The resource specialist will receive a renewal notice approximately 60 days before the expiration date.

The Resource Specialist Program (RSP) is a state-authorized program that provides supplemental instruction and support to students with mild to moderate disabilities. RSP services are designed to improve student achievement in the general education curriculum. RSP services may be provided in the general education classroom, in a small-group setting, or one-to-one.
RSP services are provided by credentialed special educators who have met all California General Education Teaching Credential requirements and have completed coursework and/or an internship specific to working with students with mild to moderate disabilities. The Psychology of Rsp in Education
RSP stands for Resource Specialist Program. The Anthropology of Rsp in Education is an authorization to provide resource specialist program services to pupils with individualized education programs. An RSP credential authorizes the holder to provide service to pupils with mild/moderate disabilities in specific disability categories. Pupils with more than one disability may be California RSP credentialed if they meet the requirements for at least one of the specific disability categories. Theishment of this credential requires completion of a minimum of 18 units of professional education coursework as specified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and passage of the required basic skills examination and appropriate subject matter examination(s). The credential is valid for five years and may be renewed once every five years thereafter by completing six semester units or nine quarter units of approved professional development coursework and submitting evidence (e.g., syllabi, evaluation forms) of completion to the Commission together with the required fax coversheet and fee. The RSP Authorization is an added endorsement to a teaching credential that authorizes the holder to provide specific, individualized instruction and related services to pupils with mild/moderate disabilities. 1. Possess a Multiple Subject Credential OR a Single Subject Credential
2. Complete an authorized Resource Specialist Program consisting of not less than 135 quarter units or 90 semester units that includes student teaching or its equivalent with pupils with mild/moderate disabilities in an inclusive setting
3. Demonstrate satisfactory proficiency, as determined by the employing agency, in each of the following areas:
-Read aloud from texts at instructional level with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on a passage selected by the employing agency
-Model and explain various reading strategies including word attack skills, comprehension skills, and vocabulary development strategies
4. Pass the CSET: Multiple Subjects Examination OR the CSET: Single Subject Examination in his/her subject area(s) of specialization with a score that meets or exceeds the cut scores established by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
5. Have his/her credentials reviewed and approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
